Xeomin: what patients should know before choosing a neuromodulator
Xeomin is one of several botulinum toxin type A products used in aesthetic medicine. Brand recognition matters less than understanding that each product has its own labeling, units and treatment considerations.
Xeomin is incobotulinumtoxinA
XEOMIN® is the brand name for incobotulinumtoxinA. Current U.S. aesthetic labeling includes temporary improvement of moderate to severe upper facial lines in adults, including glabellar, horizontal forehead and lateral canthal lines.
That does not mean every aesthetic use discussed online is an FDA-approved indication. Product labeling and the clinical rationale should be distinguished from broader off-label practice.
Units are product-specific
Botulinum toxin potency units are tied to the assay and preparation used for a particular product. They should not be treated as universal currency across brands. Comparing an advertised price per unit without understanding the product can therefore be misleading.
Ask which product is being discussed.
Do not assume that a unit of one toxin equals a unit of another.
Focus on the treatment plan, not only the unit price.
Product choice is only one part of treatment
Anatomy, movement pattern, treatment goal, prior response, desired degree of movement and follow-up preferences can matter as much as the logo on the vial. A patient may reasonably prefer one brand, but the consultation should still explain why it fits the planned treatment.
